Hi! I’m TK.
My art practice was born in Brooklyn, NY as a form of healing during a global pandemic and the throws of a new civil rights movement called Black Lives Matter. During this time I found comfort in familiar forms like ashtrays, plates, and small vessels. The things I saw around me everyday in lock down. The things that make a house a home.
I challenge myself to replicate these items, and them make them my own- turning them into colorful abstractions influenced by feeling, mood, and the world around me. Using ceramic resin, and epoxy resin poured into molds to cast shapes I create functional abstractions and small objects that I smash, shatter, crack and adorn to create new pieces out shapes that we have encountered our whole lives.
I'm inspired by the playfulness of Memphis design, the limitlessness of Wangechi Mutu, Gary Simmons, and Jean Michel Basquiat, as well as the traditional shapes and history of Wedgwood, Pyrex, and Tiffany. With these inspirations in mind I continue to push myself to fabricate different items and have since expanded into table tops and look forward to creating an array of home goods.
