The Transition…

It’s been a few weeks since I made the decision to fully explore what it means to be a better “TastyKeish”. By a better “TastyKeish” I mean to fully engross myself in the business of building my brand. The whole thing about going from a 40 hour work week to doing whatever it takes to stay afloat and still pursue my dream is that it’s even SCARIER! I’m a creature of habit, so I’m learning to realize a few things to cope with the change…

1. LET THE WORRY OUT:
My first instinct was to remain positive, fake it till I make it, and just think of all the projects I had to do. But let me tell you, positive vibes are nothing if you don’t let the worry OUT. I didn’t realize I was worried until I was flat out on the couch 3-4 ibuprofens deep due to back pain. It wouldn’t go way and I STILL couldn’t even figure it out until the next day when the pain went to my eyes and I started crying for no reason. I was overwhelmed. I didn’t know where to start. I was so focused on the smile on my face, I didn’t take care of the nearly debilitating feeling I had…

2. BREATHE:
All of the above was happening during my big launch of my web show “Taste of the Town” and I was consumed with the biggest jumble of feelings ever. There I was, happy to complete another project that quite a number of people enjoy, but on the other hand I couldn’t stop thinking about the next project, income, and hoping to God I don’t have to ask anyone for help. I had to STOP, disengage from the matrix for at least 24 hours, and BREATHE.

3. PHONE A FRIEND:
I had at my disposal a few people I could call that would listen without judgement. They helped me see that it was all part of the journey. They reminded me that I can feel any which way I wanted. But they did NOT allow me to wallow (not for long at least). And for that I’m thankful.

4. CLEAN HOUSE:
I definitely think a contributing factor was the clutter in my home. I was spending a lot more time there and had accumulated a treasure trove of…crap. It was stifling my energy and I could hardly get anything done in what was supposed to be my living AND working space. So I took a hammer and lost my mind on an old couch I had been meaning to get rid off (with help of course)! Right away, the space had opened up and so had my mind.

5. GET BACK TO WORK:
When I was done freaking out, there was still work to be done. Every time I saw that just ONE more person viewed my show, it was like a little triumph for me to find joy in. I’ve been basking in the small achievements that add up, and by the end of the week I was featured by Dr. Boyce Watkins on AOL Black Voices! I had to look for the little reminders that leaving conventional 9-5 life was the right thing to do.

I’m going to keep working on finding balance. Will you join me?

TEASER: Taste of The Town Episode 3

Check out all the dope film makers and photographers!!

Saturday was the most amazing day! I hosted “She’s So Fresh: The Freshest in Film“, which showcased films from some of the most talented film makers and photographers all over New York City. Thanks to organizer, Bless Roxwell, I even got to show my piece: “Taste of The Town: Tasty Goes to a Sensual Fitness Class”. It’s the third episode in a self produced installment that take you along on my adventures.

After working on it for too many days to count, it was ready to show in full at ‘She’s So Fresh’ and when it finally hit the big screen, I held my breath for the whole 8 minutes until the lights went up and I was met by applause, laughter, and happiness. It was the best feeling EVER.

Check out the teaser below:

As a bonus, I got Makeda Voletta, the instructor featured in the video to allow two people to experience her sensual fitness class for one session! So, of those people that verified their subscription to their site (they signed up at the show), I will be picking them Friday morning when “Taste of the Town” hits the web!!

Good Luck!!
