All signs point to the Land of the Rising Sun…

My first trip out of America ever was to Japan when I was 21-22 years old.It was everything I thought it would be and more: friendly, fashionable, and electrifying to my eyes without sacrificing tradition. I swore I would go back the first chance I got and now it seems all the signs are pointing to the land of the rising sun again.
Of all the signs I’ve been getting in the past 2 months, this last one was the clincher. Allow me to tell a brief story….
On my original trip to Japan, I got off the plane and picked up by my friend Chie and her friend Akira. They took me to eat right away to a noodle restaurant that their friend worked at and I had not even been there an hour and he had given me a gift. That gift was a Doreamon doll. Doreamon is a character famous like Hello Kitty but not as known by Americans. Doreamon is a robot cat that lost his ears that came from the future to help a little boy grow up to be a successful man.

Last weekend at Afro-Punk, I was doing some coverage for societyHAE.com and as I walk to the live painting area, what do I see??? DOREAMON! I was floored and amazed that I would see a character on this giant wall painted by artist, Rob Fokused. It hit me then, I had to go back. That was the last sign I needed.
Rob and I had a great conversation about how we each discovered Doreamon, this is his experience:

Maybe Doreamon came into my life back then to tell me about my future plans. Whatever they are, I’m ready to go back! Should I do “Taste of The Town” out there??

What was I thinking?

My friend Natty took this. She caught me completely off guard.
If you look at the photo in the post before, i’m “ON”…in this one is like she caught me mid blink…I was just in the moment.
What was I thinking? I dunno…nothing but everything. I felt like my career was changing and shaping right there on that stage. Every moment in life leads up to a turning point and I didn’t want to look back.
I felt like I could stay up there forever.

From SOB’s to AOL…What a week!

Like the title says: What a week it was indeed!!
TUESDAY:
SOB’s for the Homeboy Sandman/ Spec Boogie (presented by ANARCH EIGHTY) joint album release party! I had the pleasure of hosting the festivities with Peter Rosenberg of Hot 97…and even though I had hosted a million and one shows I was nervous. I was about to hit a stage I had not been on before, in a historic venue ,that usually has an odd crowd energy to help two artists in a defining moment of their careers. Oh and by the way, I know for a fact NBC was there, so that means there was coverage from all over which didn’t help the nerves ![]()
Check out Rosenberg and I giving Homeboy Sandman our big intro to the stage:

But what did help was seeing EVERYONE in NYC’s Hip Hop scene come together, like I said early in the show.. it was like the Hip Hop Lost finale. All I had to see was all the familiar faces and I was good to go.
Before the two guests of honor even hit there were performances by J-Live, Don Will & Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan), Che Grand, SleepWalkas, Core Rhythm & Rabbi Darkside, and more. Not to mention the special guests introduced during Spec Boogie and Homeboy Sandman’s sets like: Peter Hadar, Fresh Daily, John Robinson, just to name a few.

Stay tuned for my show review at societyHAE.com, cause you know I have more footage!!
THURSDAY:
Just as I was coming down from my show high, I had to get my mind right for my interview with Dr. Boyce Watkins who has a segment and blog on AOL Black Voices and also his own site: YourBlackWorld.com. I went up to the AOL headquarters with Dorian Chandler, friend, camera woman, and editor of my webshow “Taste of The Town” and we ended up doing two separate interviews but both together. One for my show and how I ended up shooting a Sensual Fitness class and the other was for Dorian’s film “Nigger Nation” which I worked on with her. We ended up having this conversation about the word nigger and it’s usage in contemporary society which turned out pretty funny.
After our interviews, we ended up hanging out and talking crazy talk with Pras of The Fugees and trying to discover where the smell of ribs were coming from with Sherri Shepherd of The View.
Since the interviews have to be edited, I have a sneak peek of our day at AOL. Enjoy the pics!
